Paddy Moogan, the former florist and law student, is the co-founder of Aira, a digital marketing agency based in the UK. Paddy is a well-known SEO and has been working in SEO since 2004 when he was meant to be studying for a law degree and got bored. He was the VP of Operations at Distilled before leaving in 2015 to start Aira. Paddy is also the author of "The Link Building Book" and has spoken at a number of different conferences including SMX Sydney, MozCon, BrightonSEO, SES, Marketing Festival and SAScon.

In this podcast, Paddy wanted to talk with us about the lessons he has learned in running an SEO agency for the last two years. Like I said earlier, he started Aira in 2015 and it has now grown to 12 people! What has he learned and what advice can he give to other agency owners. Plus, we saw a great presentation that Paddy did at last year's BrightonSEO conference called, "Sustainable Content Marketing." We wanted to discuss with him some of the points he made in that presentation and how you can use them to help build a sustainable content marketing plan for your business or clients (plus earn some great links!)

Maureen Jann is the Director of Marketing at Point It and host of the podcast Fine Point Digital Marketing. We had a great discussion with Maureen and covered a variety of topics. Mainly, we focused on branding, programmatic advertising, and her love of crochet and fancy shoes!

What are programmatic ads and what tools do you need to use for programmatic? Maureen breaks all of that down in this episode (and be sure to download her whitepaper, link is below!) Plus, in the MarTech segment, Douglas Karr talks about his experience with programmatic ads as well.

Mike Arnesen is the owner and CEO of Upbuild, a 100% remote consulting agency that specializes in end-to-end optimization. Mike joined us on the podcast from his home office in Portland, OR and we wanted to talk with him about his unique way of running an agency.

Upbuild is not your average consulting agency. They have a small team and each team member is only in charge of four clients...that's it. They also vote on whether they should work with a new client, and if it is not unanimous, then they don't work with them. And did I mention they are all remote?

Mike is also very passionate about culture and has great thoughts on building company culture. He even wrote a great blog for one of their clients about how he built his culture-first company.

Larry Kim, the founder and CTO of Wordstream, joins us on the podcast this week from a snowy Boston to discuss a variety of topic including RLSA, Machine Learning, Rank Brain, SEO Predictions for 2017 and his fascination with Unicorns.

Larry Kim founded WordStream in 2007 as a consultancy while it funded a team of engineers to develop and design software for search engine marketing automation. He is also a frequent blogger for Search Engine Land, Search Engine Journal, Moz, Inc. Magazine, and others.

In our conversation, we dive deep into PPC and SEO with Larry and we find out more about his history, his 2-year-old son (#PPCKid), and his thoughts on the future of digital marketing. It was a fun interview with Larry and we hope our listeners enjoy our conversation!

Five years ago we started a radio show on the northside of Indianapolis. We broadcasted live at 8 a.m. and decided to save the show as a podcast. In those five years, we've added Douglas Karr to the show, moved to a different radio station, to now broadcasting out of our own podcast studio in downtown Indianapolis. Thank you to everyone who has listened in the last five years!

On this special 5th anniversary episode, we are lucky to be joined by Dan Shure, Founder of Evolving SEO, and fellow podcaster - the host of Experts on the Wire. Dan and his wife Sarah run Evolving SEO together in Worcester, Massachusetts and he's also an associate at Moz.

We had a great conversation with Dan about SEO which focused on how to find gaps in content, which he called "Opportunity Gaps." Plus, we discuss how branding/advertising and SEO can intersect and can you make improvements to your homepage's meta description? You bet you can! Listen to Dan talk about how Macy's fails at this but gives several examples of who has great meta descriptions!

We also spend some time in the show discussing podcasting with Dan and talk about lessons we both have learned from doing our podcasts. Strangely enough, we also find out that the initials of both of our podcasts are "E-O-T-W." Weird...

It was a fun conversation and we hope to have Dan on again in the near future!

With Douglas Karr of MarTech, we talk about a recent blog post on their website in which they argued that lead forms are dead. Do you agree? Find out about these topics and more, today on the EDGE!

Ronell Smith is a content strategist from RS Consulting as well as a Moz Associate. Ronell works with a lot of big brands in his organization and we wanted to pick his brain about how he helps clients develop a content strategy and customer experience through the content.

As he says in the podcast, marketers spend too much time focused on what content is and not what it does. Content is a noun - it is people, places, and things.

Plus, we talk a little bit about his latest blog on Moz.com - how to do effective email outreach.

This week on MarTech, Douglas Karr talks about an interesting infographic from Salesforce explaining about how to create a customer journey map.

All these things and more, this week on the Edge!

Google Analytics is a wonderful tool that many marketers and websites use, but many marketers make mistakes in Google Analytics when it comes to campaign tagging. Well, we got a hold of Annie Cushing, the founder of Annielytics, to discuss how to make the best of your marketing efforts within Google Analytics.

Some of the topics we cover include:

- Campaign tagging
- Creating Custom Channels & Dimensions
- Filtering out spam traffic

This is a deep-dive into Google Analytics, so if you are a beginner to Google Analytics, we recommend that you have your analytics account open to help you know what we are talking about.

Plus, we catch up with Douglas Karr of the Marketing Tech Blog to discuss one of his latest blogs titled: "What Strategies, Tactics, and Channels Should Marketers Focus on in 2017"

A great episode this week on Edge of the Web!

Jan 17, 2017

Mathew Sweezey, the principal of Marketing Insights at Salesforce, joins us on the podcast this week.

Mathew has spoken at over 50 conferences this past year and his group at Salesforce has released some interesting statistics this past year.

This episode we are talking about the study called "The State of the Connected Customer" and how it relates to B2B companies and B2C companies.

Plus, Mathew is focused on writing his new book that will be released in early 2018. A title for the book has not been decided upon, but we discuss a good amount of the book's content in this episode.

Also this week we talk with Douglas Karr of the Marketing Tech Blog and find out who were the most loved MarTech companies of 2016.

All this and more, this week on the EDGE!
